Check out your Contractors!

Over the last 15 year that I have been doing stucco repair, I have found many issues. But over the last year or two I have been noticing a tend in a whole new direction. Sloppy, careless, and insulting work practices.

Over the next few blogs ill be exposing some of the things we have found during stucco inspections and repair estimates.

This picture is from one of our great clients that was taken advantage of by a window company. The stucco was cut back on the window and new window installed. After completing the window installation, the installer hid his damages instead of fixing them.

You can see in the picture there is raw lumber exposed under the window frame. Just below that is a layer of black paper covered with a wire. The problem here is the lack of building envelope. where that raw lumber is exposed is more than a potential water leak, it is a water leak that will happen for sure over time.

This envelope needs to be sealed and repaired before the stucco can be re applied. In this case the window installer applied a color matched acrylic stucco over the raw wood. causing this home to leak. Unfortunately for the client this has been done on 25 windows. This home is a huge mess because of careless, lazy workmanship. Check, check, and recheck the reviews, licensing, insurance, BBB and whatever else you can do to protect yourself from bad contractors.
